Rainbow Swirl was released in 2004 as a Limited Edition Numbered Pony.

Before new ponies were released to the general public, a few ponies were available through an Ebay seller called WorldinAdvance. These ponies boxes were numbered with foil stickers stating they were one of the "First 50" of their kind to be produced. These ponies are sometimes referred to as the "First 50". The ponies themselves are no different than the ponies released to the general public, however ponies still MIB with these stickers sell for higher than ponies that are not numbered. As opposed to ponies sold this way in 2003, these ponies did not come with a certificate.

Rainbow Swirl was released in 2004 as a single in the Sparkle Pony Assortment. Sparkle Ponies have glitter on their foreheads and symbols.

Every year the ponies celebrate their friendship at a magical ball, where one pony is named Best Friend of the Year. The big event is almost here, and Rainbow Swirl can't wait.

Rainbow Swirl can never decide about anything. Sometimes this is a wonderful thing -- she invented rainbow sherbet, because she couldn't decide what flavor to order. But if she can't decide on an outfit soon, she'll be late for the Friendship Ball. Includes pony and brush.

Rainbow Swirl was released again in 2004 as a bonus pony in the Twinkle Twirl's Dance Stuido building playset.

Sparkle ponies included could be any 2 of either Rainbow Swirl, Denim Blue, Peachy Pie or Desert Blossom.

Rainbow Swirl was also released in a 4-pack in 2004 at Costco. Each pack came with a Daywear set, Eveningwear Dressup set, Sparkle Pony and Jewel Pony.
